WEEKLY REPORT - PLAY INS GD2
Dear Referees.
Thank you for all your hardwork and professionalism last week in BCL and FEC Competitions. I would like again to congratulate you on a job well done. It is visible to us that you are observing our season's POE plus the additional information delivered from our Video Observers, Tough Calls, and from this Weekly Letter.
Last week we completed the first halftime of the BCL Play-Ins games. This week we have second half, plus some possible overtime situations where a game 3 may be required. It will be extremely important for us to provide the very highest level of officiating during these games along with the consistency shown in Game 1. It will be very difficult for the players, coaches and the BCL Referee department to accept differences in criteria and play calling, when it comes to contacts or violations between Game 1 vs. Game 2.
Some important details (five games) received from BCL Video Observers:
POSITIVE
- Proper game control with call/no call decisions
- Equal judgment for both teams
- Consistency in play-calling
- Correct act of shooting control, screening control
- Correct crucial calls at the end of the Game
TO IMPROVE
- Reduce the number of double whistles - trust your Team
- Reduce the number of marginal calls
UF CRITERIA
- Called UF - 4, one decision - incorrect
- Three games - no UF decision
IRS USAGE
- Four times in two games
- The initial decision changed twice
- Three games - no IRS usage
Upcoming games, Week Jan 18 - 20
Again, we have several postponed games and schedule changes. Many of our Teams are having to deal with difficult situations, as are we, the BCL Competition and BCL Referee Department. We also fully understand that you, our Referees, are under the pressure of travel, C-19 conditions, and protection. During the last week, we had several C-19 cases within our officiating community, thankfully no-one had any serious or major symptoms. However, I would like to request that after any C-19 symptoms or isolation, you check your body and talk with your doctors. Act as though C-19 is an ''injury'', you may need to rehabilitate before you get back onto the court, especially at this very demanding time.
Moving into the second half of the Play-Ins games:
- Consistency in criteria between Game 1 vs. Game 2 vs. Game 3 (if required)
- Precise scouting of Games 1. Because we play possibly two games in a week, the teams cannot make significant changes in their roasters, their performances or style of offense and deffense. This means the Crew of Game 2 or Game 3 can be much better prepared compared with the Regular Season period.
- Continue to follow and apply the seasons POE and inputs from the Video Observers.
- Expect the expected. I'm certain the pressure will increase. Be firm, be 50:50, and be a Team. I hope, no I am sure, that at the end of the week our officiating Team will be the best performing Team in each Game.
