Weekly Report - 2

Dear Referees.
Thank you for your efforts and performances during the GD2 BCL Competition.
BCL is the flagship of the Club competitions in FIBA. As a high-level competition it deserves a high level of service; this point should be above everything and therefore our top referees' service our top FIBA competition. In some of the GD2 games we didn't show this, and from my side, this is disappointing.
Let us look at the feedback from our Video Observers regarding your level of service:
POSITIVE:
- Mostly, we are receiving positive comments regarding the act of shooting control.
- The second point is the referees' 50:50 approach.
- Overall, proper contacts criteria.
TO IMPROVE:
- Better judgment in some block/charge situations
- Quick calls, without the proper protocol.
- Reduce the number of marginal calls - again linked to the protocol
- Mistakes in L2M - in two games the winners were decided by our incorrect decisions. I don't need to receive the complaints from the Clubs, for me, the recognition of our crucial wrong decisions and the impact on the result is enough.
Again, I am talking about only a small number of decisions that leave a negative stamp on our overall good job.
UF SITUATIONS
Here, in GD2, we had a problem. From six UF situations, we had three incorrect final decisions. What can I say? This is not our expected service level. The wrong final decisions may not have been visible to the people outside of our community, but for us, it should be a big warning for better concentration and better decision-making.
IRS USAGE
In eight games, we had twelve IRS usage situations. From these twelve situations, the coaches had six Coach Challenges. The main points are:
- Three times we had IRS usage outside of the valid IRS protocol
- Twice, we had incorrect final decisions. Once after a Coach Challenge, once after the referees' used the IRS.
- Two games, from eight, had no IRS usage.
I think it's visible, the importance of expert knowledge and implementation of the FIBA Basketball Rules around IRS usage, with a special note of knowing all the details regarding the Coach Challenge.
Below you can find two significant play situations, one from each game day:
TWO PLAY SITUATIONS
Dear Referees, we don't have much time to improve our overall officiating. For some, regarding your performances, will be coming a period without any BCL games. I can't stress enough that I need top performers; I'll try to find the referees in the best officiating shape. I hope that you remember my points in Frankfurt, during the PCC BCL: ''We are now in BCL Season 7, and I don't like to have referees in their comfort zone''.
In the short term we will be organizing a ZOOM meeting to show examples, to discuss, and to underline again, our targets for this season. We require a greater focus in some areas.
To this week all nominated Referees in the BCL and FEC games, I wish a great officiating, your best concentration, and high-level decision-making. It is up to you to be the best possible service providers and trustful part of our BCL officiating community.
