WEEKLY LETTER R16 GD3

Dear Referees and Video Observers.

Thank you all, for your performances in February, during the recent BCL games, L16, GD 03, and QR EBM2025 games.

The basic feedback from my side – in 40 games, in February 2024 - we were successful.

BCL, L16, GD 03

The main characteristic in BCL L16, GD 3 is a high percentage of ABOVE STANDARD marks – 21 from 24 marks. The other 3 are - STANDARD marks.

                                                                       QR EBM 2025

The QR EBM 2025 feedback is a 'could be better' picture. We were using our entire group of Elite Referees and whilst we didn't have any big negative issues, we also didn't have our expected level of officiating. When the group is bigger, we know we will have a different level of performance per Referee, this is expected. Please use the Referee Instructor's feedback, to further develop and improve your officiating.

You, as an Elite group, by several criteria, are divided into 3 quality groups. The number of your nominations and, the difficulty of nominated games are linked with your present status per group.

From the data above, any of you can recognize what you need to do, to advance from group to group, to receive more difficult games and to build trust in your possibilities and performances. From the beginning of the season, our Referee Instructors/Video Observers have been analysing your performances, advising on how to progress, and how to be the best version of yourself in any game.

Our educational Team, led by Mico, Johnny, and Fernando, prepared and will soon publish the Teaching material on several topics from the games QR EBM2025. From my side thank you to the VOs' Team for their effort, and speed, to find play situations, selection, and final editing.

February was also the month of the games:

PRE-QR WORLD CUP 2027, QF ELW, QF ECW, and Second Round FEC. Referees from our Elite Group were nominated for these games were successful in their performances.

Just to clarify or point out again: You, as Elite Group Referees, have the privilege to be prioritized for these nominations. On one side I am giving you the possibility for your development and better upcoming status. On the other side, you are nominated there to give a high level of performance.

I wish to announce a new Project in cooperation with FIBA HQ Refereeing and NBA Referee Department. BCL Youth, April 2024. will be the first Global Camp in cooperation between FIBA and the NBA. My congratulations to the nominated BCL Referees, and best wishes to a group of our younger colleagues, not from the BCL list. In total, from Europe, we will be sending 12 FIBA Referees. There also will be 6 FIBA Referees from other Zones.

Dear Colleagues,

In front of us, again, is a decisive part of the season, a do or die period. The competitions will run fast, with no time for corrections. This is a highest-level delivery period. Now we don't have time to focus on development. What I am expecting from any of you, is the highest quality and delivery of decisions, mental strength, and open, positive communication with the players and coaches. With the note to protect the dignity of our job. Please, go through the Protocols, IRS, and HCC material. Scout your teams well and be ready for the 'finger towards the Referees'.
