WEEKLY LETTER - GD4

13.11.2023

Dear Referees and Video Observers.

Thank you all for your performances in recent BCL games, and other FIBA competitions across Europe. For your information during last week, we had 60 games, this is always a big challenge for our entire FIBA officiating community in Europe.

From the beginning of the present season, one significant detail per round became a stamp on our job.

This week we had an unpleasant situation, a serious injury of our colleague, Aleksandar Glisic. Probably, all of you have watched what happened. The diagnosis is a total tear of the patella tendon in his knee. Alex is already in Belgrade, and on Friday had surgery. I want to speak for everyone and wish, in my name, and the name of our community a successful recovery, to have patience, huge motivation, and a readiness to work hard, show resilience and perseverance.

From my side, I must thank Club Tenerife for their great support and care for our colleague. Thank you to the BCL office staff, for providing all necessary actions to ensure his safe return travel from Tenerife to Belgrade. It was a big challenge.

Glisa – be strong, and work hard, we are waiting for you on the BCL courts!

Back to the business, below you can find feedback received from BCL Video Observers.

UF criteria

In this round, in 8 games, we had 6 UF situations. Two games were without the UF decision.

All decisions were correct decisions. By criteria – C1 4x, C2 1x, C4 1x.

Head Coach Challenge

IRS usage by Referees

In both categories we have a few situations, just another day in the office. The significatnt point in the HCC is out of bounds sitautions. Many times the requests (as usual) come from the players in charge on those play situations.

My closing comments:

As you can see on both officials websites, we have sent two reminders regarding:

  • Behaviour and actions on the court/off the court, by the officials
  • Injury prevention

Please study both documents.

Regarding your officiating, at the beginning of my letter you can read the most significant points, positive and to improve. In the reports received from our Video Observers I can see additional points for the recent games; we are not repeating our mistakes, which is very positive. We must however, still strive for improvement in areas linked with the FUNDAMENTALS of officiating. No time to relax, be with the approach a Referee is only as good as their last game/call.

Finally, I wish to announce our upcoming video meeting for Referees and Video Observers, where we will look at material from the first part of the Season. More details will come out shortly.

I wish you a great week of officiating in all our competitions.
