Vaccine and booster reminder

10.01.2022

Dear Officials,

As we all experience in the countries across Europe, the pandemic has reached another milestone with highest dispersion rates since the beginning in December 2019. The new "omicron" variant seems to be less dangerous in terms of morbidity and mortality, but this is more an observation than a medically proven fact yet. Many experts claim that to be due to high vaccination rates, but not because the virus became less dangerous. Scientific conclusion is expected soon.

Dear members of the FIBA family. Your health matters. We care about the well-being of every single member of our FIBA family. With the measures implemented by the FIBA Covid-19 protocol, we do not have many bad experiences yet, beyond some positive cases in our competitions. To keep it that way, we remind you to follow the measures and to get vaccinated if you are not yet. If you are vaccinated, please do your booster shot as soon as available in your country.

Vaccination does not protect from being infected, but helps the body to fight better and get easier rid off the virus.

The omicron variant is the most infectious one among all variants. To skip this malicious variant, we kindly remind you to avoid crowded places, to respect social distance and to wear masks whenever in contact with others. That will also help many of us to pass the PCR or antigen tests required for travel.

Wishing you all the best in 2022 and most importantly to stay healthy.
